Hey guys! I apologize as this post was originally intended to be posted a few days ago. But in all honestly, laziness is a strong weakness of mine. Blurbs
~ I'm going to keep the blurbs minimal this week as I have other posts I want to get done. But there are a few things I want to comment on.

~ First off, Zayn/Sia – Dusk Till Dawn entered the Top 10 this week, which I find quite impressive given that it's not necessarily a hit outside of Hits 1. But this is a quality song that deserves the treatment it's getting on this countdown. So I'm definitely pleased with this rise towards the top.

~ We also see Macklemore/Kesha – Good Old Days rising into the Top 20 this week. I'm very pleased by this as well. I would love to see this become another big hit for Macklemore. It's very deserving. And following right behind, we have One Foot from Walk The Moon, which is the only debut from last week that made a reasonable jump of more than five spots. Another favorite of mine that I'm glad to see doing well so far. Both of these songs deserve all the success they can get.

  1. First, and it's nice to see Sober Up by AJR featuring Rivers Cuomo in red. F**k everything about this song. And AJR in general. I'm honestly so sick of these guys right now.

And your thoughts on Justin Timberlake's new single?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Having now heard it, I have to say it's kind of weird, and I worry about him turning into one of those brag rappers. I'm not totally on board with it yet.

      Delete
    2. My thoughts. I've heard plenty of criticism while surfing on Pulse Music Boards.

Yeah, sounds like it's even more polarizing than Look What You Made Me Do by Taylor Swift.

      Delete
    3. I honestly really like the song. It is most likely a Hit-Bound entrant this weekend.

      Delete
    4. Unlike Look What You Made Me Do, which is clearly an F rank despite Miles and Montavis both being major apologists of it, I do think this might be at least somewhat better received because of Justin Timberlake's natural talent. I don't know.

      Delete
    5. I'm not sure I'm totally on board with it yet. It's definitely a strange release from him. I'm hoping the rest of the album isn't like this.

      Delete
    6. As far as my opinions go, I'll probably be in the middle. I don't necessarily hate it, but I don't love it. But something tells me that you'll probably won't like it when all is said and done. I'm not assuming; that's just my guess.

And no worries, Adrian. I highly doubt his album sounds more like this. Remember Perfect Illusion? Almost nothing from Joanne sounded like that. (i.e. Million Reasons)

      Delete
  2. *Sees Sober Up in red* Well, can't say I didn't expect it.

    Anyway, nice post Adrian!

  9. To clarify what I said above, calling Look What You Made Me Do "F rank", sometimes I'll rank songs based on what I think their general consensus is.

S rank: Almost unanimous praise with very few detractors and that you can expect on most Best Hit Songs lists (ie I Took a Pill In Ibiza, Shut Up and Dance, Style)
A rank: Mostly positive. Does have a share of detractors, there might be that one worst list it ends up on but overall the praise outweights the backlash (ie 24K Magic, The Hills, Lean On)
B rank: Overall a decent amount on both sides, might get some backlash but has a good amount of praise going for it (ie Something Just Like This, Can't Stop the Feeling, Ride)
C rank: General public is overall more "meh" on it than anything else, there may be fans but overall reception isn't big on either end (ie I'm The One, Cheap Thrills, Sugar)
D rank: Mostly negative. Does have its share of defenders, but overall the detractors outweigh the praise (ie Closer, Shape Of You, Despacito remix)
F rank: Are almost unanimously thrashed and you can expect them to be on several Worst Hit Songs lists (ie Look What You Made Me Do, Body Like A Back Road, Work From Home, most meme songs)

An iTunes update: Justin Timberlake's new single, Filthy, is still at #2 behind the Finesse remix from Bruno Mars. I'm guessing this means that people aren't too fond of Justin Timberlake's latest single after all. Something tells me this will get hit by bad radio callout scores.
