Hailee Steinfeld & Grey (2) – Week Of December 24, 2016

Hey guys! Christmas is officially over and I managed to find some time to work on this post, even though I probably should be asleep. But when your on winter break, one of the fun things to do is stay up late and sleep in late. But anyway, I hope everyone had a great Christmas. I spent the entire day with my family and I enjoyed every minute of it. That's what I think Christmas is about. Being with those you love. No songs leaving the countdown this week, so let's get right into it!

#1 Song This Week One Year Ago: Adele – Hello

Biggest DROP!!!... Of The Week: DJ Snake/Justin Bieber – Let Me Love You (–21)

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Tie Between Steve Aoki/Louis Tomlinson – Just Hold On and Zayn/Taylor Swift – I Don't Wanna Live Forever (+9)

Merry Blurbmas!
~ It seems as though any song can pretty much hit #1 if Starving can manage to do it. There is nothing about this song that makes it #1-worthy. Frankly at first listen it just felt like another song. It has nothing special to it. There are other songs on this countdown that are certainly more worthy of that spot. This is just getting overplayed.

~ On top of that, the entire Top 5 and #11-#15 range have all held their spots. Unfortunately due to it being the end of the year, we might not see any massive changes on this countdown until we turn our calendars to January.

~ The jump into the teens from Zayn/Taylor Swift – I Don't Wanna Live Forever is no surprise. I'm still having a hard time getting used to this song as I still can't stand Zayn's falsetto. For the second week, it has barely made it to green. I can already tell that this song will be a pain in the ass very soon.

~ Pitbull/Flo Rida/LunchMoney Lewis – Greenlight has begun to fade on me. I still like Flo Rida's verse. Pitbull's verse is okay. But LunchMoney Lewis' take on the chorus is getting old. It wasn't that good to begin with. I don't love this dude's voice. This song is unfortunately not sticking with me.

~ At #'s 29 and 28 we have John Legend – Love Me Now (yay!) and Charli XCX – After The Afterparty (eww). It's nice to see the former of these two make the jump into the Top 30. Steve Aoki/Louis Tomlinson – Just Hold On also barely made it into the Top 30 on week #2. A little shocking if you ask me. Hopefully soon, this song can make a bigger jump and be the hit I want it to be.

~ Fifth Harmony – That's My Girl really hasn't been doing much on this countdown. I haven't listened to it that much recently so my opinion stays where it is for now. But at this point I pretty much know that this will not become the next Work From Home.

~ The drop down into the Bottom 5 from DJ Snake/Justin Bieber – Let Me Love You was rather unnecessary and pretty damn annoying. I'll admit that this song spent a good amount of time in the Top 10. But did it seriously have to drop all the way into the Bottom 5 like that? Probably not.

~ It's safe to say that all of these songs have pretty much made it into 2017. So congrats to all of them. Especially those that I did not really see it coming for like Calvin Harris – My Way and Kenny Chesney/P!nk – Setting The World On Fire. But unfortunately, we are still stuck with songs like 5 Seconds of Summer – Girls Talk Boys. I can guarantee that one will be out come January 7th.

~ The Christmas edition of the Hit 45 Chart is currently being worked on and will be posted as soon as possible. So stay tuned for that!

  1. Wait, Adrian likes a Mariah Carey Christmas song, AKA one of her most iconic ones to date?! I have no idea what to think of Adrian anymore, except in a better light.

Oh, and he has a JB Christmas song as his most missed countdown song.

But Adrian, did you hear that singer George Michael from Wham! died recently on Christmas? He actually sang songs like Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, Last Christmas, and Do They Know Its Christmas. And he also came out in an interview, (I don't know exactly what year and with who though) that he was gay.

And I haven't been on here much recently because my brother just came back from Florida.

    3. Leah: HE DOESN'T CARE!!!!!!! also, SHUT UP!!!!!!!!
Miles: My mom read about that on Msn, and at first, and didn't know who he was, but them i was like "oh no, not another singer". and we might lose sting seeing him just releasing a song, just like david bowie.

    Continued from last post.

I do realize that she is talking about the number of exits in 2016, which may sound like a weird thing to you (and it is a little weird for me), but it does happen to make this countdown more interesting. Just think, if we had 0 exits and a biggest drop/jump of like 8 spots, that would make the countdown so much less interesting. And honestly, I think WAMB10 is innocent. She's not trying to be mean to anyone, and she always gets hate for it, which is not fair. I'm surprised that some of you can't take a little activity in the countdown.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, 6, 7, & 8 exit weeks are a lot more interesting.

      Delete
    2. We can certainly take activity and 6+ exit weeks on this countdown. But we just don't like hearing anyone begging for them or complaining that we haven't had any week after week. The first couple of times it was okay. But now it's just a little annoying because it happens all the time. That's all.

      Delete
    3. What Adrian says makes sense. Sure, we want activity and I'll certainly welcome it when it happens, but what we don't want is people droning on about it.

      Delete
    4. (sorry for double post) And as I've said before, I do feel like a number of factors have caused the drop in activity here, including the spike in streaming services which has made radio and sales less relevant, and some may not like this year's music as much.

      Delete
    5. A lot of people both listen to streaming and Hits 1.

      Delete
    6. That's what I'm trying to say. I think that too much complaining is unnecessary, but maybe a little is alright.

      Delete
  5. I'm extreme surprised Mercy hasn't debuted yet considering that it's teenage pop(what hits 1 loves), and that's it's popular everywhere else, why hasn't it debuted?!?!?!?!?!? oh right, because they want to give Treat you better 2 weeks at #1 after it's 24th week, and give it an extra long countdown run.

    ReplyDelete
  6. "On top of that, the entire Top 10 and #11-#15 range have all held their spots."

It should be the entire top 5, not the top 10.

    1. What he meant was that there were no top 10 entrants.

    2. But the songs in the #6-10 range didn't hold their spots.

"It also crowns the Digital Song Sales chart for the first time (5-1), logging the chart's greatest week-over-week sales gain (up 28,000), surging by 49 percent to 86,000 downloads sold in the week ending Dec. 22. Its coronation on both charts was boosted by 69-cent sale-pricing in the iTunes Store during the tracking week.

"Starboy" holds at No. 3 on Streaming Songs (25 million U.S. streams, down 2 percent) and dips 4-5 on Radio Songs (106 million in airplay audience, down 7 percent). It peaked at No. 2 on both lists."

So digital sales, to put in in simple terms.

      Last Christmas- Wham! (#50) (DEBUT)

It originally wasn't released as a commercial single back in 1984, and the chart rules back then would not allow it on the Hot 100 for some reason.

  27. DanielESmoines: This Town hitting #1 (if that were to happen) would be no surprise because of Hits 1's love for One Direction's members. I wonder will this be the week where Niall Horan gets to #1 or holds at #3 for the third straight week. Maroon 5 hitting #2 won't surprise me either, but I know there are some people who would not be happy to see it there (looking at you Scott, Miles).

    2. Me too, parker.

      Here's my review.

I miss the old days, when it was really easy to pick my top 5 hits for _ _ _ _. But this is the year where we lost those good rock songs like take me to church from last year, and now, this year, most of the charts were drake, Rae sremmurd, Kevin gates, and the BAD Rihanna. On the rock side though, the only good rock that we had was Twenty one pilots, and that's basically the only good thing in the rock category, since there was NONE!

Besides that, we did have I took a pill in ibiza, Closer, This is what you came for, and cold water but that's pretty much it.

2016 was one of the worst years ever in my life of all categories, let hope for better next year.

    3. Besides music, this was the most diverse year for me, i didn't get to see my brother for like all year and i had to stay with my other older brother, who teases me a lot. And, i didn't get to go with my family for summer break, so i was basically left alone, and it was the year my i pod broke.

      Delete
    4. In terms of mainstream music, we had an awful #1 song for a lot of the time (Cheap Thrills), along with the Internet being taken over by a 14-year-old boy that makes horrible music (Jacob Sartorius). There weren't as many good mainstream songs as some of the previous years either. There was some really good hip hop, though, but I think that more of it should've made it to the mainstream. The reigns on the Hot 100 by One Dance, Work, and Closer were very pleasing to me, but the #1 song on the year-end Hot 100 was just a disappointment.

As for the world, we had tons of terror attacks, the civil war in Syria, and the deaths of many different celebrities, with a majority of them being musicians (and even one gorilla). There were attacks like the Orlando shooting, the attacks in Nice, and the Brussels bombings. Even more local to me, there was the Gatlinburg wildfires, which has cause my family to not be able to go there for winter break. And not to mention Trump becoming president, which is pretty bad, but better than Hillary taking office.

There's not too much in my personal life, but there was one big thing: bullying. I've become a bullying target for the popular kids at my school, and trust me, it sucks. I had a couple big injuries throughout the year as well, more than I've ever had in a year. I got a bad wrist injury at this Nerf Wars thing once, and then I sprained my ankle while riding a scooter over fall break.

There were definitely good things that happened in 2016, but the bad kind of outweighs that.
