Shawn Mendes (1) – Week Of November 12, 2016

Songs have hit #1 on this countdown during many different times during their runs on the countdown. For example, Adele has hit #1 after only 3 weeks, Katy Perry after 4, Andy Grammer after more than 30, etc. Then you have Shawn Mendes – Treat You Better coming in hitting #1 out of nowhere after over 20 weeks on the countdown. I would've been much more happy with this a few months ago when it was still new. But if I had to pull a positive thing out of this, it's that for once I do not have to look up a new photo of The Chainsmokers and I can finally look up a photo of someone that I find really attractive and good-looking. So that's very nice. :) Before we get to this week's Fresh 45, here are the songs we're saying goodbye to this week.

  • P!nk – Just Like Fire (#38)

New Entrants
~ Who here remembers Bastille? They had that huge #1 hit in 2014 called Pompeii, which actually landed itself at #3 on Hits 1's Year-End Top 45 for 2014. But I feel as though Bastille is one of those bands that comes in at some point with that one huge hit (Pompeii) and afterwards, they can never top that. And when they do try with songs like Good Grief, it just doesn't work that well. Not to say that this song is bad, because it certainly isn't. But it doesn't have that ability to stick with me. Sure, the chorus is kind of catchy. But that's about it. So right now, I'm pretty split. We'll see if that changes, but I do not see this song having the same kind of success Pompeii had.

~ Not long after the departure of Cake By The Ocean, DNCE returns with Body Moves. I gotta say, this song is a whole lot of fun. A song like this is what will make us remember DNCE as that cool band with catchy songs. But I'd like to point out the music video for this song. I decided to watch it and.........wow. It got REALLY hot and steamy in that video. Just a recommendation for Joe Jonas, you should definitely take your shirt off more. It pleases my eyes. ;) But anyway, I do really like the song. Hopefully it does well.

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list:

  • Martin Garrix/Bebe Rexha – In The Name Of Love
  • Lady Gaga – Million Reasons
  • Jason Derulo – Kiss The Sky
  • Train – Play That Song
  • Ellie Goulding – Still Falling For You
  • Captain Cuts – Love Like We Used To (DEBUT)
  • John Legend – Love Me Now
  • Shawn Mendes – Mercy
  • Dua Lipa – Blow Your Mind (Mwah) (DEBUT)
  • Gavin DeGraw – She Sets The City On Fire
  • Rihanna – Love On The Brain
  • The Summer Set – The Night Is Young
  • James Arthur – Say You Won't Let Go (DEBUT)
  • Daya – Words (DEBUT)

~ We can now rejoice as Magic! – Red Dress has finally left Hit-Bound! Good riddance!

Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Martin Garrix/Bebe Rexha – In The Name Of Love
2. Gavin DeGraw – She Sets The City On Fire
3. Shawn Mendes – Mercy
4. Lady Gaga – Million Reasons
5. Captain Cuts – Love Like We Used To

Body Blurbs
~ Other than Treat You Better, the only song in the Top 10 that disapprove of is Daya – Sit Still, Look Pretty. I still think it's really obnoxious that it's continuously jumping in and out of the Top 10. And just when I was happy that Cheap Thrills managed to fall out, Sit Still, Look Pretty just jumps right in as a replacement. Not cool, Hits 1.

~ I want to say I heard Fifth Harmony – That's My Girl at least once every single time I was in the car listening to Hits 1. So frankly, it's no surprise that it had such a big jump.

~ Our Top 10 debuts are looking really good. I had heard The Greatest quite a few times this week, so no surprise it's there. Don't Wanna Know was destined to hit the Top 10 at some point with it being Maroon 5 and all. And I'm very pleased to see that Alessia Cara's best single so far is doing really well. These three songs are worthy Top 10 keepers.

~ Runaground – Chase You Down in the Top 20? Count me in! It's really nice to see this song doing relatively well. Frankly, it deserves it because it is a really good song.

~ I find it very pleasing to see Twenty One Pilots – Ride drop out of the Top 20. It's about damn time! As someone who never even liked the song, it was definitely a really painful time for me, especially when it spent so many weeks at #2 making me nervous that it could possibly hit #1. Thankfully, it did not.

~ It looks as though Nick Jonas – Bacon has dropped out of the Top 30. This is completely fine with me. I never found this to be a really exciting song to look forward to listening to. It's pretty boring if you ask me. Nick Jonas's music has really been getting less interesting ever since Joe Jonas and DNCE became a thing and started dominating. And look where we are now. Bacon <<<< Body Moves.

~ I legitimately never hear 5 Seconds of Summer – Girls Talk Boys during the week. That explains why I continuously forget that this song is still on the countdown for whatever unknown reason. But despite me never hearing it, I am still slowly losing interest in it.

~ Songs like Demi Lovato – Body Say and Taylor Swift – New Romantics have only been popular on this station while having flopped on just about every other chart. Hits 1 probably only holds on to them because hello? It's Demi Lovato and Taylor Swift!!! Two of Hits 1's favorites. :P

~ Seeing Calvin Harris/Rihanna – This Is What You Came For not only at #45, but also being announced as the Biggest DROP!!!!... of the Week was very nice and very pleasing. Never will I ever understand what there is to love about this song.

~ And of course, how could I forget? Kiiara – Gold has dropped all the way down to #39!!!!!!!! YES YES YES YES YESSSS!!!!!! (Thank you voters!!! Lol.)

~ As far as the exits go, it was time for P!nk – Just Like Fire to make its departure. It unfortunately never got to hit #1. But it will definitely be remembered as one of the best songs of the year. Fifth Harmony – Work From Home, on the other hand, was way overdue. Some may be heartbroken by this song exiting, but I'm really happy right now. One less piece of crap to have to type out every week.

~ The Hit 45 Chart for LAST week is out! The one for this week is currently being worked on. But if you want to check out the chart for last week, the link is right down below!

  2. So, quick questions:
    - How close is Cheap Thrills to being in the Crap tier?
    - In your 800k Pageview Special, you said it would probably be a while before Hello fully grew back on you yet you still considered it great. I thought it'd be in blue. (yeah that's not really a question but w/e)
    - I assume you didn't talk about the Hit-Bound entrants due to a lack of time? (And yay for having the same purple song as me.)
    - Last week you had This Town in the Good tier, so did you grow back into it a bit more?
    - Allow me to guess your bottom 5 (in ascending order) - Gold, This Is What You Came For, Ride, Perfect Illusion, and...24K Magic? How far off was I?
(another comment I thought of making but I don't want to jinx it)

Also, look out, because Ride might re-enter the Top 20 next week because it was a Most Wutchuwanted stop during Hit-Bound this morning. Not saying it will, but it happened.

  3. The only songs on here I care about:
    Closer
    Starboy
    CSTF
Side To Side, The Greatest, and ITNOL are pretty good as well, but they aren't good enough for me to care about along with all the rap music I listen to.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Nice nice! I hate to be annoying but "I had The Greatest quite a few times." And wow that's a high top 20 score mines like half of that on the Billboard lol. And do you not like Kiss The Sky cause it's kinda similar to 24k Magic?

Also can someone explain what's so good about Love Like We Used To?

    1. Love Like We Used To is catchy. I think you'll be the only one that dislikes it.

    2. I'm split on it now but I think I'll eventually dislike it.

      Delete
    3. I just listened to it and it's mediocre. Pretty close to red.

      Delete
    4. I dislike Kiss The Sky because I can't stand Jason Derulo's screaming in that song. And Love Like We Used To is pretty catchy. I'd like to ask what's so good about Love On The Brain. :P

      Delete
    5. I'm slowly growing into Love On The Brain. IDK why I like it honestly.

      Delete
    6. Rihanna's voice is just so perfect and the beat is so catchy. I couldn't understand how it's somewhat boring though.

      Delete
    7. Her voice is exactly what makes the song so bad. It's so scratchy and annoying in the verses. But to each their own, I guess.

      Delete
    8. That's not quite my problem with the song, for me it's that the song is so slow and boring and not the thing that Rihanna should be doing.

      Delete
    9. Both of you are right on target as to why I don't like it. Rihanna's scratchy voice is annoying, minimalist piano production is nothing like Rihanna and just comes off as boring, (Except I thought Stay was okay) and its just not a Rihanna song at all.

      Delete
    10. Yeah I also can't stand how slow it is. I much prefer her faster songs. This just doesn't even sound like Rihanna.

      Delete
    11. Agreed, it's nothing like a Rihanna song. We Found Love, Diamonds, What's My Name? etc. are 10x better than Love On the Brain.

      Delete
    12. i agree with both of you, Rihanna's voice is nowhere as good as her voice in Where have you been, Take Care, And Many Others. It's Like She's No Even Trying, Oh Wait... SHE ISN'T!!

    Top 10 thoughts:
    1. Wait...this one's peaked? It's about to start dropping? YES :D No records for you!
    2. I feel like this one could peak any day now, but with the album in two weeks it may still be able to hit #1.
    3. Well, this one did pretty good, so I figured it'd start dropping soon.
    4. Impressive that this one's doing as good as it is still. Then again it's #3 here so I shouldn't be surprised.
    5. With the album dropping this coming weekend, hopefully it'll hold long enough to get at least that one week at #1, between that and the aftermath of the AMAs.
    6. This one's been done for a while now.
    7. This one died out not that long ago, even though it was just #1 here.
    8. Looks like this one's making next year's Year-End list, too. Sure. More please!
    9. Despite gains, it's definitely too late to make 2016's Year-End list. Sorry Maroon 5 fans.
    10. So sorry, everyone x_x

  6. Since no one has done it yet, AT40 highlights:

Just Like Fire leaves from #40.
    Broccoli debuts at #39. :O
Hymn For The Weekend drops 7 spots to #31.
Don't Wanna Know jumps 7 spots to #19.
24k Magic jumps to #8 from #12 pushing Cheap Thrills from #10-11.
All On You and Love Me Now are both on the verge.
Ain't My Fault is a breakout.
The Chainsmokers hold at #1 for their 5th Week overall with Closer.

    2. Also, I just looked and Kanye West - Fade is #36 on there. It's nice to see that song getting some love.

  7. I actually think the chorus of Good Grief isn't my favorite part I love the parts where it's like In my thoughts you're far away and you are whistling a melody whistling a melody. And I'm actually in love with this song. I find it much better and catchier than Pompeii to be brutally honest. Pompeii was a good song, this song is great though IMO

    5. Honestly, I wouldn't really care. I do see the appeal at least, it is sleazy and dumb but RS have definitely been much worse.

    6. I've heard it once, but I only remember that it was only okay.
      -.

    7. I had never cared about Rae Sremmurd before they released this song. I liked it at first, but I'm really tired of it now. Their other single from their latest EP, Look Alive, was a lot better than this.

As for Gucci Mane, if you wanted to put one of his songs on the radio, be sure to choose one that's not a straight up snooze fest. Songs like Last Time, Back On Road, Waybach, and Addicted are the ones to root for. This song and P***y Print just aren't very good.

  18. S-O-S she is in disguise
    S-O-S she is in disguise
There's a she wolf in disguise,
Coming out, coming out, coming out
A domesticated girl that's all you ask of me,
Darling it is no joke, this is lycanthropy
Moon's awake now, with eyes wide open
My body is craving, so feed the hungry
I've been devoting myself to you
    Monday to Monday
    And Friday to Friday
    Not getting enough retribution
Or decent incentives to keep me at it
Starting to feel just a little abused
Like a coffee machine in an office (ahoo)
So I'm gonna go somewhere closer
To get me a lover and tell you about it
There's a she wolf in the closet,
Open up and set her free (ahoo)
There's a she wolf in the closet,
Let it out so it can breath
Sitting across the bar, staring right at her prey,
It's going well so far, she's gonna get her way
Nocturnal creatures are not so prudent,
The moon's my teacher, and I'm her student
    To locate the single man
I've got on me a special radar,
And the fire department's hot line
in case I get in trouble later
Not looking for cute little divas
Or rich city guys that just want to enjoy
I'm having a very good time
and behave very bad in the arms of a boy
There's a she wolf in the closet
Open up and set her free (ahoo)
There's a she wolf in the closet
Let it out so it can breath
    S-O-S she is in disguise
    S-O-S she is in disguise
There's a she wolf in disguise
Coming out, coming out, coming out

Here's some good news for Scott: Closer is out of the top on iTunes.

    1. 24K Magic
    2. Don't Wanna Know
    3. Let Me Love You
    4. Juju On Dat Beat
    5. Blue Ain't Your Color
    6. Heathens
    7. Can't Stop The Feeling
    8. Hallelujah- Leonard Cohen (he recently died a few days ago)
    9. Starving
    10. Better Man

I think the Hot 100 will be getting a new #1, but I think Black Beatles will take it due to streaming, and the Mannequin challenge as well. And by the way Closer is #13.

    ReplyDelete

    1. It's safe to say Closer won't be number one but Black Beatles would be the most random #1.

      Delete
    2. The only reason Closer left the Top 10 is because the single version of it no longer exists. Now it can only be bought on their EP Collage (which landed in at #6 on the Billboard 200).

      Delete
    3. Why isn't Black Beatles in the top on iTunes?

      Delete
    4. Graham: Black Beatles has streaming and its increasing in sales, as it had big streaming due to the mannequin challenge.

Scott: Uck, now that's bullshit! No one should spend 4.99 just to buy an EP in which we 've already heard all of the songs throughout 2016. I'm sticking with Spotify and YouTube thank you very much.

Parker: I don't know but last I checked its #15, so that's something.

      Delete
    5. I remember last Sunday or so Black Beatles was #1. I guess songs don't last at #1 there forever.

      Delete
    6. Except songs like Uptown Funk and Closer.

      Delete
    7. Actually, Closer can still be bought on its own within the EP, just not as the single with the single art.

And don't forget CSTF being #1 on iTunes for over two months.

    8. I was thinking otherwise.

Two months? Wow! That's a long time!

    10. From where I am now, BB is #1 on iTunes again.

Also, CSTF did briefly lose #1 a few times (For Free, Treat You Better, and What The World Needs Now Is Love) before it was dethroned for good the week that Rise and Make Me debuted (which was Cheap Thrills' first week at #1).

    11. According to Kworb, Black Beatles is #1.

Parker: I saw. Now Miles can care about that song more.

    5. And She Sets the City on Fire debuted there too, as well as Kaleo's Way Down We Go, which had three runs on the Alt-18, but was unsuccessful as it peaked at #13 there.

  31. I'm gonna review the countdown (I hope this isn't too late)

As far as exits go, I'm kinda sad of Just Like Fire. I think it's a great song. But Work From Home HAD to leave pretty soon. Still kinda like it but it's extremely old and if it didn't leave, I would probably hate it.

Good Grief is pretty great at this moment. No much to say about it.

Body Moves is OK. When I first heard it, it was great. But now every time I listen to it, it somehow gets worst. This is the first song from DNCE that isn't great when it debuts.

Nice to see This Is What You Came For drop. Now let's get it out of the countdown.

Why is Starboy and I hate u, i love u dropping?!?! This is not OK.

Nice jump into the top 20 from the three entrants last week and Chase You Down

Speaking of Chase You Down, it's cool to see songs that are just come out of nowhere and Hits One shows them some love :)

It's angering to know that Fresh Eyes is higher than All Time Low. Just no.

Top twenty looks great except one song... the horrible, overrated song in the world... Treat You Better. It's is THE WORST SONG ONE THE COUNTDOWN!!! This will DEFINITELY will go in my bottom five of the year

And yeah like . said on his/her Q&A, I will never know how it feels to dislike/hate 1/3 of the countdown like most of you guys. I pretty much like all songs on the countdown (except Treat You Better if I didn't make that obvious enough)

    Hit-Bound review coming soon.

Martin Garrix/Bebe Rexha – In The Name Of Love (Green)
Lady Gaga – Million Reasons (Green)
Jason Derulo – Kiss The Sky (Red)
Train – Play That Song (Blue)

John Legend – Love Me Now (Green)

Rihanna – Love On The Brain (Orange)
The Summer Set – The Night Is Young (Blue)
James Arthur – Say You Won't Let Go (Green)
      Daya – Words (PURPLE)

From best to worst on the debuts, first we have Captain Cuts (OMG what a funny name!) with Love Like We Used To. I haven't listened to it but it's better than Play That Song, Kiss The Sky and Love On the Brain.

Then there's James Arthur – Say You Won't Let Go. I've only heard it once and I thought it was good.

The second best debut is Dua Lipa – Blow Your Mind (Mwah). It a fun song to sing to and it's just great
I have loved Daya since I first heard Hide Away. I thought nothing could beat this. Then I heard sit still look pretty which was great (and still is) but not as good as Hide Away. Then I heard other songs that aren't popular right now (i.e Thirsty, Cool, ect.). But now Words... This is amazing and just brilliant!!! I was in my head all day long at school today. With enough listens, this could be better than Hide Away.
