Justin Timberlake (4) – Week Of July 9, 2016

Yesterday was a special day for our very own Weekend Countdown host, Spyder Harrison, as it was his birthday! Unfortunately, he was not here this weekend (probably due to a vacation or something) and Kid Kelly (who I still can barely understand due to the speed in which he talks) hosted the countdown instead. I already wished Spyder a happy birthday on Twitter, but I'm still gonna do it in this post. So Happy Belated Birthday, Spyder Harrison! Before we get to this week's Fresh 45, here are the songs we're saying goodbye to this week.

New Entrants
~ I'm pretty split right now on the new Adele single, Send My Love (To Your New Lover). When I first listened to it, I really enjoyed it. But then my interest in this song has been slowly decreasing to the point where it's okay. It's definitely better than When We Were Young, so that's something. But slowly this song is getting more and more boring in my opinion. I thoroughly appreciate the message in the song, but I don't find the song itself to be very interesting. I'm kind of just thinking out loud, but I feel like it lacks something (I don't know what) that made songs like Rolling In The Deep, Set Fire To The Rain, and Rumor Has It to be so catchy. Overall, I don't love the song. It's okay. But please keep in mind that this is all my opinion. I often times feel like I have to reiterate that so I don't get comments from people hating on my opinion.

Hit-Bound
~ For the second straight week, we have a celebrity guest host in for Mikey Piff. This time around, it's Brendon Urie.

~ Here is the Hit-Bound list:

  • Symon – Say
  • Jacob Whitesides – Lovesick
  • The 1975 – The Sound
  • Flo Rida/Jason Derulo – Hello Friday
  • Magic! – Red Dress
  • Disturbed – The Sound of Silence
  • Bebe Rexha/Nicki Minaj – No Broken Hearts
  • AJR – I'm Not Famous
  • Ben Rector – Brand New
  • Lukas Graham – Mama Said
  • Jordan Fisher – All About Us
  • Drake/WizKid/Kyla – One Dance
  • Alesso/Nico & Vinz – I Wanna Know
  • The Strumbellas – Spirits

~ The Strumbellas debuted with Spirits. Ultimately this song is okay, but it's a little bland and uninteresting in some parts. So don't surprised if this song is color-coded red in the future.

~ Disturbed – The Sound of Silence has been on Hit-Bound for a seemingly long time. I fear that this song will not make it on to the countdown. I really do love this song to the point where it is my new favorite song on Hit-Bound, so I really hope it debuts on the countdown soon.

~ The 1975 – The Sound has been on Hit-Bound for a while too. Unlike The Sound of Silence, I honestly don't care (and would prefer) if this song doesn't debut on the countdown.

~ Symon – Say is getting more and more annoying after each listen. I really hope it can leave us soon.

Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Disturbed – The Sound of Silence
2. Alesso/Nico & Vinz – I Wanna Know
3. Drake/WizKid/Kyla – One Dance
4. Bebe Rexha/Nicki Minaj – No Broken Hearts
5. Jordan Fisher – All About Us

Hits & Misses
~ This week, I thought I'd include the show Hits & Misses, which (for those unaware) is hosted by Pete Wentz.

~ Here is the Hits & Misses list:

  • DNCE – Toothbrush
  • Flo Rida – My House
  • Panic! At The Disco – Don't Threaten Me With A Good Time
  • James Bay – Let It Go
  • Justin Timberlake – Can't Stop The Feeling
  • Zayn Malik – Pillowtalk
  • Weezer – King Of The World
  • Fall Out Boy/Demi Lovato – Irresistible
  • Selena Gomez – Hands To Myself
  • Lil Dicky/Brendon Urie – Molly
  • MAX – Basement Party
  • Nick Jonas/Tove Lo – Close
  • Sia/Sean Paul – Cheap Thrills
  • The 1975 – The Sound
  • Butch Walker – East Coast Girl

Top 5 Hits & Misses Picks
1. Lil Dicky/Brendon Urie – Molly
2. Sia/Sean Paul – Cheap Thrills
3. MAX – Basement Party
4. James Bay – Let It Go
5. Panic! At The Disco – Don't Threaten Me With A Good Time

Send My Blurbs
~ P!nk – Just Like Fire has hit a new peak at #2 this week. I'm still waiting for this song to hit #1. I would honestly prefer this song over Can't Stop The Feeling.

~ I'm honestly not even going to comment on that huge piece of garbage that was awarded the Biggest Jump Of The Week this week.

~ Twenty One Pilots – Ride is most certainly not Top 5-worthy material. With that being said, I hope it does not peak any higher and begins moving down.

~ Speaking of Twenty One Pilots, Stressed Out needs to start dropping as well. We can't just have it in the Top 20 for another month. We have better songs under the Top 20 that are more worthy of this spot.

~ G-Eazy/Bebe Rexha – Me, Myself, & I managed to break out of the Bottom 5. Unfortunately, I'm pretty over this song. So it'd be nice if it could leave soon.

~ Hits 1 must have read my comment last week on Timeflies – Once In A While failing to do anything noticeable on the countdown. Well this week, it did something noticeable as it jumped to #15.

~ OneRepublic – Wherever I Go made a nice jump as well into the Top 20 this week. I knew this song would be able to do it. :)

~ Ariana Grande – Dangerous Woman jumping to #6 is not acceptable at this point. I really want to get this song out of here and replace it with Into You.

~ The Hit 45 Chart for this week is out! Find out if Coldplay can hold at #1 for a second week in a row and a tenth time overall with Hymn For The Weekend!

Throwback Pick Of The Week: Nickelback – How You Remind Me

Most Missed Countdown Song: One Direction – Where Do Broken Hearts Go

#1 Recommendation For Hits 1: Twenty One Pilots – Heathens

  3. My 2nd favorite song right now, is also the new #2 song for me on the countdown in the form of Send My Love (To Your New Lover)

I'm starting to get back into Irresistible today.

I'm glad Don't Mind jumped 12 spots this week.

I'm starting to get sick of 7 Years, and I'm not particularly happy about their new song Mama Said.

Great, Me Too jumped into the top 20. -__________-

I'm completely over Jet Black Heart, and I hope it'll leave next week.

Is Don't Threaten Me With A Good Time going to be Panic! At The Disco's next single? Because if it is, it may re-entry my top 45 chart.

Work From Home took another drop this week. YAY!

I really wish that The Sound, and The Sound Of Silence would have debuted, but I don't think they will.

Again, am I the only person who still loves Stressed Out.

I may just like Dangerous Woman again soon.

    Top 5:

    4. Panda is straight up shit. So no, it should not debut. :P

      Delete
    5. If Panda did debut though, Adrian, would it be the 3rd contender for worst song of 2016?

      Delete
    6. Probably.
And here are my bottom 5 songs of 2016 so far (in no particular order):
      Let It Go
      Sweatshirt
      Mama Said
      Stressed Out
Either Over And Over Again or Jet Black Heart

      Delete
    7. I kinda find Panda funny-bad, much like I'm Ready :P Fun fact, despite the song claiming Desiigner "got broads in Atlanta", he's actually never been to Atlanta. Spyder Harrison has more broads there now!

    8. My bottom 5 of 2016 so far:

      4. Low Life- Future/The Weeknd
      5. H.O.L.Y- Florida Georgia Line

    9. Work From Home is okay at this point
Me Too is great but getting a little old
      Low Life is pretty good
      Haven't heard the other 2

    10. Panda would legit be the worst countdown song of the year hands-down. It is definitely the worst song of the year overall, but if it did debut, it would definitely be the third contender for Bottom 5 of the year.

    11. When it comes to worst songs of the year, I normally go by the Billboard charts. And yes, Work From Home is, hands down the worst song for me. With Me Too, and Make You Miss Me coming in very close behind.

  10. And with Hit-Bound... I also noticed that your favorite song there is Jack's least favorite. It's one that I'm starting to lose the appeal of, though.

But regarding Spirits, I said this on my blog, but to me it honestly feels reminiscent of Ho Hey by The Lumineers, I don't really know why. Gosh darn it, I'm with you on Into You by Ariana Grande, they need that one here soon.

    5. The thing with Hello Friday is, aside from being by two acts that aren't as personality driven as most other party jams, an out of place Limp Bizkit reference and other odd lyrical inclusions are a thing, and the production isn't even all that lively.

  41. This Week in Billboard Chart History: In 2003, Beyonce Scored Her First Solo Hot 100 No. 1

"Crazy in Love," featuring Jay Z, began its eight-week reign. Plus, remembering feats by The Black Eyed Peas, Garth Brooks & Don Henley.

    July 11, 2009
The bad news for The Black Eyed Peas: seven years ago today, their "Boom Boom Pow" ended a 12-week reign atop the Billboard Hot 100. The good news? They replaced themselves at No. 1 with follow-up "I Gotta Feeling," which went on to spend even more time on top: 14 weeks. The 26-week domination for the songs marks the longest by a single act in the Hot 100's history.

    July 12, 2003
Clearly, it was her destiny to achieve solo stardom. Thirteen years ago today, Beyonce earned her first of five Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s apart from Destiny's Child (with whom she achieved four leaders), as "Crazy in Love," featuring her then-future-husband, Jay Z, began an eight-week command.

    July 13, 1985
A year after landing its first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 with "The Reflex," Duran Duran ruled again, as "A View to a Kill," the title theme to the 14th James Bond film, rose 2-1.

"Holding you, I held everything. For a moment, wasn't I the king?" Garth Brooks sings in "The Dance," his modern country classic that began a four-week reign on Hot Country Songs on this date 26 years ago. Read Billboard's recap of Brooks' July 8 New York show here.

Don Henley's third solo album, The End of the Innocence, debuts on the Billboard 200 at No. 97. Two months later, it peaks at No. 8; it's eventually certified 6-times Platinum by the RIAA. In 2000, when Henley released follow-up Inside Job, he reflected on Innocence in a Billboard cover story. "I still love the song 'New York Minute,' and 'The Last Worthless Evening' is just straight-ahead pop, but it's good. And, of course, [the title cut, a No. 8 Billboard Hot 100 hit co-written with and co-produced by Bruce Hornsby] is very fixed in time. I think it has enough universality that it could still apply today, but it was about the Reagan era." Henley also relayed the reach of the No. 21-peaking "The Heart of the Matter": "I have a collection of the most amazing letters about that song from all over the world that I treasure. I'm gonna keep them forever."

1988 marked a renaissance for pop singer-songwriter Eric Carmen. That February, he earned his first Billboard Hot 100 top 10, the Dirty Dancing soundtrack smash "Hungry Eyes," since 1976; the song also rose to No. 2 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Carmen, formerly the Raspberries' frontman, followed with another melodic gem: "Make Me Lose Control," which on July 16, 1988, crowned AC (similarly his first No. 1 on the list in 12 years). The same week, "Control" entered the Hot 100's top 10, on its way to a No. 3 peak.

Speaking of the AC survey …

Happy 55th birthday, Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart! The ranking originated with Brook Benton's lighthearted "The Boll Weevil Song" as its first No. 1. (The most recent new leader, Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop the Feeling!," is the 796th AC No. 1.)

Hm. Four songs I don't care for at all, two that I already own, and some others I like a lot (albeit with some censoring, which is very prevalent in Panda). Album cover's pretty cool though.

Just thought I'd share that for anyone interested :)

    2. I honestly have no problem with One Dance still at #1.

    3. I do. Drake sounds so boring, and I'm starting to get sick of the tropical house vibe that songs this year have been doing.

    4. I don't care if One Dance is #1 for like 15 weeks, but there is one specific song in the top 10 in hoping can replace it soon.

    5. As I've said several times, it's not that I'm not happy for Drake getting his first #1 as a lead act and all. But the thing that I REALLY don't want is for One Dance to surpass Uptown Funk as the longest-running #1 song of the decade, or even worse, break One Sweet Day's record of 16 weeks. I beg for that not to happen.

It doesn't help that the song isn't available on YouTube at all, save for his Saturday Night Live performance. If Drake cared enough, you'd think he would allow the song on YouTube... But from what I've heard, the video has recently been filmed. Thankfully, from what I've heard, sales and airplay are falling, so hopefully we won't have to worry about any record-breaking.

    2. ...I don't usually check out these things like "T40", "Top 45" or "Hot 45" or what have you, but the fact that you're suggesting me look at it gives me the feeling that Me Too is on it somewhere.

*checks Hot 45 chart* Me Too at #7, Selena, P!nk, other stuff... Oh? That #1 makes me quite happy to see :D Now I see why you said that, haha!

But yeah, I'm hoping it'll make Hit-Bound when we get that inevitable 5+-exit week.
